Next Monday, our nation celebrates the voyage of Christopher Columbus to the New World.  His mission was to discover a land which would yield its fruits for the Spanish Crown, which sponsored him in the 15th century.  Over 500 years later, this land of America has been a great blessing to all of us who call it home.

Our volunteer lodge/emergency shelter will stand on this land.

Believe it or not, HEAL has just discovered an area of land that we envision bearing great fruits for our mission in the near future! In the small village where Rev. Leo Okonkwo grew up, we have made a down payment on 200 square meters of land.  A structure will be built that will function as both a lodge for volunteers on mission trips and an emergency shelter, where the children can be moved in case of any kind of security issue.

In fact, during Rev. Leo’s recent trip to Chicago, we spoke of this urgent need for a shelter/volunteer lodge and made appeals for it wherever we went.  Many of you have expressed the desire to travel to our mission in Nigeria and participate in our work and enhance your own experience.  If you see our mission in person, I guarantee you will return home wanting to spread the word about HEAL!

So far, we have raised about half of the funds ($25,000) to fully own the land upon which the structure will stand.  PLEASE help us raise the other half by the 1st week of November, the deadline we have agreed upon with the villagers who own the land. The gift that you make toward this project will greatly advance HEAL’s vision “to form the African Child…for the advancement of African Society.”

Think of yourselves as the King or Queen of Spain, without whom the land Columbus discovered would have never born such abundant fruit!
